Does this sound familiar? You and your friend/family member sign up for CrossFit or another fitness program, promising to hold each other accountable. You both show up, have fun, and feel like you're getting into a good routine. But then life gets busier and you get more tired and more stressed, and the pre-workout texts between you and your partner start to read more like this:
The night before:
"Going to class tomorrow morning?"
"That's the plan. But if I'm too tired, I'll probably sleep in. Text you in the a.m."
The next morning:
"I'm not going. Gonna sleep in."
"Me too. We'll go tomorrow."
This pattern then repeats itself until you and your partner stop going altogether, and then you're back where you started. So here's the hard truth. No one is accountable for your fitness (or lack thereof) but you.
Accountability partners are kinda like having a group project in school. Maybe the members of your group pull their own weight, or maybe they do nothing and you wind up doing all the work yourself because you want to get a good grade. Your instructor doesn't care - you're responsible for your own grade.
Fitness is the same way. It's all on you. Yeah, it'd be great if someone helped you by encouraging you to go to your CrossFit class, but at the end of the day, your fitness is on you. YOU are your accountability partner. You can make the commitment to go to class, and if you're fitness buddy says they're not going, the choice is clear. Here's your reply:
"I'm going. Get your butt out of bed. See you soon."
Then go.
